254 children completed Year Seven of the Family Literacy Program in December 2022. Of these children, 122 were enrolled in Year 1 curriculum, 61 in Year 2, and 70 in Year 3. 14 children dropped from the program.
The Friends of Liberia Monitoring and Evaluation Sub-Committee has been working hard with the WE-CARE staff and tracker to complete the cohort 2 and cohort 4 reports and hope to release this in the two months.
The Adult Literacy Program completed its round at the end of December and graduated 99 Level 1 learners. 59 reached the required skill level to go to Level 2. 40 have been encouraged to repeat Level 1. 42 learners graduated from Level 2. 90 of the 99 Level 1 learners completed the OLA post-test. WE-CARE is exploring ways to encourage Level 2 graduates to continue developing their reading skills. These were all record numbers for both the Family Literacy and Adult Literacy Programs in 2022.
In January, We-CARE Foundation began working with the five communities enrolled in the Family Literacy and Adult Literacy Programs. Stakeholder meetings, recruitment of new families, refresher training for staff, and the purchase of supplies and materials needed to accommodate expected increases in numbers all took place. Pre-testing dates were set for new children and families to the programs and these were carried out in February.
276 families and 277 children have been enrolled in Year 8 of the Family Literacy Program. Home visitors began their home visits the first week of March.
The Adult Literacy Program recruited adult learners and OLA training was completed at the end of February. Adult classes began in the five communities the second week of March and will continue for nine months.
WE-CARE is excited to being Year 8 with another record-breaking number of students and families and wants to thank all the donors for their support for our programs.
