Thank you—we cannot say it enough. Your donation to the Afghanistan Emergency Fund is helping many Afghans, especially women, girls, and children, gain access to education, hygiene care, work opportunities, and more.

Since you last heard from GlobalGiving, donations from the fund have supported three grants to high-impact nonprofits using their knowledge and community networks to help people living through the crisis in Afghanistan.

These financial resources are vital as Afghanistan continues to face a severe humanitarian crisis, which is currently being exacerbated by funding cuts from the US and other countries.  With nearly 40% of the UN emergency food program already cut and 41 healthcare centers shut down, Afghan-led organizations are scrambling to restructure and stay operational.

Here is a short description of some of the critical work you’ve supported:

  • The Bamyan Foundation is discreetly starting a new underground girls' school in a remote village, adding to its others across several provinces. Bamyan has also designed special classes for girls in some of the regular schools, where girls continue their education separately from boys and with women teachers.
  • Global Women’s Trade Caravan is an Afghan, women-led organization focused on helping women access economic opportunities after so many of them lost their incomes over the past three-and-a-half years under the Taliban’s governance. Via its Made by Afghan Women platform, GTWC’s small cross-country team is helping women grow their businesses, as well as sell and ship their products on their online platform.
  • Cooperation for Peace and Development (CPD) is offering much-needed services in Kabul city, such as providing hygiene kits and information to children who don’t have homes and are forced into the child labor force, where they have to work as garbage collectors or street vendors, among other examples. The organization also conducts research, campaigns, and promotes civic engagement of these children through volunteer programs and sports initiatives.

And that is why we cannot thank you enough! Your support of the GlobalGiving Afghanistan Emergency Fund fuels community-level responses such as these, and it means Afghans can access some of the vital resources they need..Moreover, in this uncertain climate, your donations keep our partners running their programming and covering day-to-day expenses.

With gratitude,

Nicole + the GlobalGiving Team
