By Staff | Wayuu Taya Foundation
In the last four months, so much work has been done to keep transforming the lives of the communities we serve. At the Wayuu Taya Foundation, we continue with our free Water Program, which we do through tank trucks that transport clean water extracted from our well in Mara. So far, this program has benefited more than 6,000 people, and we have expanded the coverage thanks to the generous donation of a new tanker truck.
With the reception of this new vehicle, we continue working to achieve the program's sustainability through the sale of water in the North Region of the city of Maracaibo while distributing free water to hospitals, schools, health centers, the elderly, and other foundations.
With this donation, Wayuu Taya continues to help provide access to water in the region for those who need it most.
AGRICULTURE
As part of our sustainable projects, we started our Agroecology program in Mirabello Farm, which aims to create a sustainable and replicable agricultural program to promote agroecology and sustainable production systems in indigenous communities of the Mara Region with emphasis on farming, education, and training on bio-intensive cultivation.
HUMANITARIAN AID
In these months, 20 organizations and 58 communities have benefited from the food program, reaching more than 8,800 people with over 64,000 kg of vegetables, fruits, and grains.
EDUCATION
At the Wayuu Taya Foundation, we are very proud to have started the 2022-2023 academic period at the Tepichi Talashi school, with almost 400 children who will also benefit from daily meals offered by our humanitarian aid program. In addition, we have optimized internet access to improve pedagogical processes by teachers.
The Tepichi Talashi school has educated generations since its inception in 2004 in the Mara communities of Zulia state.
On November 5th, The Wayuu Taya Foundation, in alliance with El Sistema (The National System of Youth and Children's Orchestras and Choirs of Venezuela), started music classes for the children of Mara on the border between Venezuela and Colombia. With 314 children from 17 communities, the classes are taught by El Sistema twice a week, organized into two groups by age.
MEDICINE
The Foundation has delivered medicines and supplies to 8,742 people during the last two months: In total, 34 communities, 32 health institutions, and 59 non-profit organizations such as Fundación Belloso, Fundanica, and Cruz Roja del Zulia have benefited.
During this rainy season, we were present in the town of Las Tejerías, Aragua state, with medicines and medical supplies for more than 500 people affected by the floods caused by Hurricane Julia.
HEALTH
This month, 214 students from the Tepichi Talashi and Jesús Redentor Schools received instruction on oral hygiene and health methods to promote oral health.
INFRASTRUCTURE
Restoration of the recreational area, conditioning, and improvement of the classroom spaces in the Tepichi Talashi school serving over 400 children.
Your support has enabled us to provide consistent programs to our children, which already have a long-lasting impact on their lives. We are immensely grateful for your help.
