Creating Autism Awareness in Kenya is a big priority to us as an organization, this means that most of our resources go into letting people know what is Autism, how it manifests differently in different kids, and how to manage it through various interventions and services. We tell people where these services are available and how one can access them easily depending on the locality.
Autism awareness is also meant to defeat deep-rooted African stereotypes on disability and how these stereotypes go ahead to affect the services and programs run by organizations and government concerning Autism.
Through this 5km run, we are able to bring the different stakeholders in rural and urban areas together and shed light on Autism and other neurodevelopmental disabilities, this is a day of fun activities for the kids and parents and the rest of the community members get to participate in the run and win prizes. They also get to have a lesson on Autism and how to embrace the kids in the community who are different. We teach them that it is okay to be different.
Through the medical camps that we offer with the help of the hospitals and medical institutions that act as sponsors, we are also able to give free medical camps to the community members who attend the event. In these medical camps and tents, the locals get to have themselves a complete medical check-up and screening for various illnesses and the correct medical advice and prescription.
Your donation towards this project does amazing work, this year alone in April 2022 we reached out to over three hundred people who were physically at the event and thousands of others who got to see the run online.
Kind Regards,
Ruth Tenai
