Assistance Needed for our Autistic Children!

By Lauren Fishbach | U.S. Board President

Dear Friend of Team Delia,

4.5 years ago NONE of the children who attended our Delia's Learning Center were in school when we opened our doors to help them. TODAY, 75% of our school-age children attend school.  Big miracles like this and little ones, happen every day for our kids with the help of our amazing team.

There are no special education teachers here in rural Romania or professional support for kids with autism in the classroom. Our children continue to need our support to prevent them from falling through the cracks and prevent school drop out in the long term.  Early intervention is the key and our youngest children are 3 years old so that we can have the opportunity to have maximum impact.

It’s hard to believe but children and adults with disabilities here are still placed in institutions. Education opens the door to independence so that our kids don’t  end up on the streets or in institutions.  We had a grant for years that funded 1/4 of our budget, with much allocated to the autism program. The grantor cannot continue.  We are working through other longterm options including a community partnership grant from European Union. We had financial reserves but in 2022 we put the needs of Ukranian mothers and children first and gave a lot of financial resources to assist them in Romania. We have chosen to weather this temporary storm.

Will you help keep the miracle we started going?  This email links to our GlobalGiving project page where you can make a donation directly to our Autism Program.

Thank you for remaining by the children's side as they have grown. You have made a world of diffrence.

Best,

Lauren Fishbach

U.S. Board President/ Co-Founder, Delia's Learning Center
