Hilltop Schools GlobalGiving Accelerator Report 2020

Hilltop Schools Inc. joined the GlobalGiving Accelerator program in September 2020. Our crowdfunding campaign goal was to provide a safe school for over 260 students at our tuition-free all-girls Academy in Monrovia, Liberia. We operate an all-girls Academy to ensure girls attend school and become leaders in their community. The Academy has a holistic approach, providing 260 girls quality education, healthcare, nutrition, and psychosocial support. School for our students is entirely free.

In October 2020, our sixth, seventh, eighth, and ninth graders returned to school to complete the lost instructional period due to COVID19; while Kindergarteners to fifth-graders continued receiving take-home learning packets.

Through the GlobalGiving Accelerator Campaign, we successfully:

  • Retrofitted classrooms to ensure social distancing between students; thereby minimizing the risk of the spread of COVI-19;
  • Installed hand-washing stations at the main entrance of campus, in all restrooms. All classrooms also have hand sanitizers for teachers and students;
  • Provided all students with reusable cloth masks. Additionally, both teaching and non-teaching staff were provided with reusable masks and face shields;
  • Purchased a digital thermometer. Temperature check is now a mandatory requirement to enter our school campus.

The new academic year started on December 14, 2020. All students grade K through 9 returned to the school campus with these safety precautions in place. This year, we have an enrollment of 273 students.

Student testimonial on day one of school

“I am happy to be back to school. I am excited about my new class and friends. I missed learning new things. I missed my friends and my teachers. I missed the love and care I get when I am in school. This year, I look forward to participating in Quizzing and Spelling Bee competitions.” Winnie, 8th Grade
