A quick summary of the project: the Katulumba Primary School is a community school in a very poor neighboroud of Siavonga: the Fishing Camp. As more and more families move to Siavonga with the dream of working in the fishing industry, the school, built in 2010 for 84 kids, counts currently more than 600 pupils. Before Guardavanti started this project, 3 years ago, the school consisted of the original 3 classrooms and 8 latrines.
In agreement with the school and the local office of the Ministry of Education, we started to raise funds to adapt the premises: the full project contemplate a total of 7 classrooms and 2 sanitary blocks (each with 8 flush toilets and basins with running water).
From an interview to the Head Teacher of the school: "It would be a great job, because we have a lot of pupils in the community, imagine 600 plus pupils in 4 classes... it means they have less hours of learning..."
It is quite a challenge in terms of budget; in these years, thanks to our donors, we managed to build the 4th classrom, and 2 flush toilets, to serve girls in their period and fragile kids.
Little by little, we are continuosly collecting funds, until we will have enough to build the first sanitary block. We know is still a long way, but shorter at any new donation!
Marco, our volunteer, arrived yesterday in Zambia, and in the next weeks will visit the school. In the next report you will have new photos and - finally after 2 years of pandemic - first hand infos.
Thanks for your continuous support and attention
