We are delighted to share the progress of our project “Beautification and Greening of Schools in Kenya.” The project has made significant strides in empowering local communities and learning institutions to champion environmental conservation initiatives in Kilifi County thanks to your support and donations.
In the last quarter, over 5000 tree seedings from the Mabati Technical Training Institute’s tree nursery were distributed to 5 schools and community groups in Kilifi County. Our vanilla farming project at the Mabati Technical Training Institute (MTTI) is making a forward match by attracting community members and students interested in learning how to grow the high-value crop. Similarly, the permaculture and regenerative agriculture training is also progressing well and has seen increased production of fruits and vegetables in the school garden. We are happy to report that over 1107 trainees at MTTI are currently benefiting from highly nutritious vegetables from school from the garden thanks to the new farming method adopted by the training institute.
Following the 2023 Safal Eye in the Wild (SEIW) photography competition, the Safal MRM Foundation recently initiated winners’ projects to mitigate the effects of drought and its effects in schools. One of the projects we have adopted will support Kiwanja Ndege Primary School in Laikipia to install water storage and rain harvesting systems. These systems will enable the school to store rainwater for usage, growing trees, and gardening. We believe that this is a more sustainable way of helping the school mitigate the impacts of drought, ensuring a reliable water supply, and supporting efforts to green the school environment.
On World Environment Day, We took part in a tree planting event at Nairobi City Park, we also donated 4,500 tree seedlings to various schools and community environmental initiatives on this day. Additionally, we held a tree planting session at St. Peter's Mgombezi and Fort Jesus- reinforcing our commitment to environmental conservation. This project will continue to inspire and educate younger generations to actively participate in environmental conservation activities at school and in their communities as change agents.
We express our deepest gratitude to all of our GlobalGiving donors for their unwavering support of our mission and look forward to your continued support in impacting our communities.
