As we continue our journey toward environmental sustainability, we are thrilled to share the latest progress in the Beautification and Greening of Schools Project. With your unwavering support, we have expanded our reach, strengthened our impact, and deepened our commitment to fostering green communities.
At Mabati Technical Training Institute (MTTI), sustainability is at the heart of learning. This year, we introduced an Agribusiness Level 5 course, equipping trainees with skills in sustainable farming and agribusiness. This initiative ensures they can boost food security, create livelihoods, and build climate resilience.
Additionally, our permaculture vocational training is thriving. Over 800 trainees and local farmers are now applying regenerative farming, soil conservation, and sustainable land management techniques, restoring ecosystems and enhancing food production.
In partnership with the Kenya Agricultural and Livestock Research Organization (KALRO), we distributed over 20,000 tree seedlings in 2024, advancing afforestation, biodiversity conservation, and climate resilience. KALRO’s expert guidance has also empowered farmers and MTTI trainees with knowledge on climate-resilient crops and fruit tree cultivation, ensuring long-term success.
We are proud of our ongoing commitment to environmental conservation and sustainability, particularly through the Safal Eye in the Wild (SEIW) initiative. While the photography competition has long showcased the beauty of our planet, it has evolved to actively contribute to preserving it.
Through post Safal Eye in the Wild projects, the Safal MRM Foundation has extended its impact by supporting the Dabaso Tree Nursery Project in North Horr. This initiative is transforming arid landscapes into thriving green spaces, ensuring a more sustainable future for local communities.
With the Safal MRM Foundation’s support, the nursery has expanded its operations, with plans of acquiring essential equipment such as a water tank and pump to ensure a steady water supply. These improvements are reducing seedling mortality rates and enhancing the growth of drought-resistant tree varieties.
Additionally, the project extended to North Horr Primary School, where students are actively engaged in tree planting and environmental education. By involving young learners, we are instilling a culture of conservation, ensuring that future generations remain stewards of the environment.
The kitchen garden at Mabati Technical Training Institute plays a vital role in feeding over 1,000 trainees daily through the school’s lunch program. By reducing food costs and improving nutrition, this initiative demonstrates the power of self-sustaining food systems, inspiring similar projects in other institutions.
Our pilot project with 100 dragon fruit seedlings is thriving, proving its potential as a drought-resistant, high-value crop. This initiative highlights the intersection of economic and environmental sustainability, offering innovative agricultural solutions for arid regions.
With every tree planted, skill imparted, and meal provided, the Safal MRM Foundation is building a greener, more sustainable future. Our focus remains on scaling up these initiatives, strengthening partnerships, and empowering communities to drive long-term impact.
To our GlobalGiving donors, thank you for believing in this vision. Together, we are transforming schools, empowering communities, and shaping a greener Kenya!
