First Steps towards a Special Green Adventure

By Maria Toura | HAF Intern

I had the incredible opportunity to participate in a diverse range of workshops and activities over the past week within the frame of the YCC Program, implemented by the High Atlas Foundation in partnership with the U.S. Forest Service.

Each day brought something new, allowing me to learn and grow in ways I hadn’t anticipated. Here’s a recap of my experiences:

The week started with sports to create a positive energy. Then, we engaged in a fun team-building activity that strengthened our bonds as a group.

Also, we participated in a writing workshop that focused on biography techniques. We explored different styles and shared our personal narratives.

I found it inspiring to hear everyone’s unique perspectives. It was a great way to kickstart our journey together!

On day two, we participated in a design workshop where we learned about the design-thinking process and creativity.

Later in the day, we attended a presentation on tree planting, highlighting the importance of environmental stewardship, and we explored different YCC projects of tree planting.

Midweek, we participated in a photography workshop. Our instructor introduced us to the basics of composition and lighting. Armed with cameras, we captured moments and scenes that resonated with us.

It was amazing to see the creativity of my peers, and I walked away with a newfound appreciation for the art of photography.

Day four was all about empowerment. A guest speaker shared their inspiring journey, emphasizing the importance of resilience and self-confidence.

Following the presentation, we enjoyed a gaming session. It was a perfect blend of motivation and fun, reminding us that play can also be a powerful tool for learning.

To cap off the week, we engaged in various sports activities, including football, handball, and tennis. It was wonderful to participate in friendly competitions! Later, we took turns presenting the most special moments in our lives.

Hearing everyone’s stories fostered a deeper connection among us and highlighted the diversity of our experiences.

This week at YCC has been transformative. From writing and design to sports and personal skills, each activity enriched my experience and helped me grow.

I’m excited to continue this experience, build on the skills I’ve learned, and form lasting connections with my peers. Here’s to more inspiring weeks ahead!
