A Book Bike is a great way to connect with readers – everywhere! Perfect for rolling out into a park, narrow streets, along city walkways, or anywhere a reader is looking to read. A unique addition to a community. As icetrikes says; “Think of a Book Bike as a type of Mobile Library. One that’s quick and nimble, compact, and unobtrusive. A simple machine to transport knowledge far and wide. Similar to a time machine, but without the risk of getting eaten by an intergalactic space gorilla!” The first book bike documented to have been specifically outfitted for this purpose in the United States was created by Haley Tricycles for Gabriel Levinson in 2008. Alif Laila book Bus Society has launched Pakistan’s first book bike in 2020. Ayesha Jabbar managed Programmes at Alif Laila from 2010 -2013. In 2013 she moved on as a grantee of an AusAid scholarship to enrol for a Masters in Linguistics at the University of Melbourne. Ayesha was one of the brightest stars Alif Laila has had the privilege to be associated with. In 2021 she applied for an award open to AusAid beneficiaries and won it. She gifted that to Alif Laila for setting up a Book Bike in October 2021 Ayesha was diagnosed with brain tumor. She passed on exactly one year later this October. We have now named our Book Bike the Ayesha Jabbar Book Bike. We hope to reach thousands of children and pass on Ayesha’s love for books and reading.
