Pooja is one those rescued from The Kedarnath disaster that occurred in June 2013. We took responsibility for her and she was skilled by Purkal Stree Shakti.
While working, she began to complain about severe lower back pain. We took her to a local physician- Dr. Manju Sachchan who advised her some medication and rest. Since this did not work, we took her to a paediatrician-Dr. Anju. This doctor concluded that what Pooja needed was pain reliving oil. Since this also did not work and severity of her pain was getting worse, we consulted Dr. Kamra who is well known urologist. He assured us that she was not having any kind of urological disorder and so we referred her to Dr. Johri, an orthopaedic surgeon. An X ray of her back and some medication and a further examination after 15 days yielded no relief, and so to Dr. Sumit S Mehta, a neuro surgeon at Sakya hospital Dehradun. Dr. Sumit advised MRI of spine and he diagnosed Anita with a spinal Tuberculosis category-2. He also directed her to go for a DOTS treatment.
This medical treatment was undertaken at Doon hospital, a government hospital. She will undergo this treatment for a further 9 months. She regularly visits the hospital and our Nurse has also now a DOT certificate that helps regular care. We believe she is now on her way to recovery.
