Menstrual Hygiene Event Successfully Conducted!

By Peace Winds Project | Project Organizer

To mark WorldMenstrual Hygiene Day on May 28, an event was held in the northern Kenyan counties of Turkana and Garissa to raise awareness about the importance of menstrual hygiene among local communities.

Under the theme "Making Menstruation a Part of Daily Life by 2030," refugees, girls, boys, and adults from the surrounding areas participated in the event. They showcased dances, songs, and skits to emphasize the significance of understanding and taking care of your physical welfare. Additionally, the event included practical demonstrations and workshops on using disposable and cloth menstrual products. Participants were also provided with menstrual supplies and soap.

Voices of the Participants

Refugee Girl: "I saw cloth menstrual products for the first time at this event. Learning how to use them left the most significant impression on me."

A woman from the Kalobeiyei Host Community: "The variety of menstrual hygiene products available in the village is limited, so having the opportunity to learn about them is very appreciated. This was a truly fantastic event, and I hope they come to my village next time. I'd like to get involved as a community volunteer and spread menstrual hygiene knowledge to more people."

Parent: "The skits performed by the children were wonderful. I will pass on the knowledge about menstrual hygiene that they learned today to other women and girls in our area."

School Teacher: "Some girls still feel uncomfortable discussing menstruation. We aim to create opportunities for children to learn about menstrual hygiene in schools."
