Kulika Uganda Project Progress Report

This report covers the period January – April 2022.
Training
During this period, Kulika Uganda trained 44 female religious participants from 44 religious centres across Uganda. The Learners came from each of 44 centres looking after abandoned and vulnerable children under the Administration of the Catholic Church body called Catholic Care for the Children in Uganda (CCCU).
With skills learn, the centre will now benefit from using of very safe and health means of cooking, save environment and equip the children with life sustaining livelihood skills.
203 female learners were grouped into 5 groups. Each of the groups was training in the making and use of briquettes and handed an extruder.
Kulika Uganda successful held a look & learn training for 4 Rotarians from the Rotary Club of Sonde (Uganda). Rotary Club of Sonde is jointly working with Kulika to support a training for 100 women in Ngora on Briquettes making and acquisition of briquette making equipment.
Extension Training & Adaptation.
One of the trained women (Lovincer) in Wakiso, shared her wonderful story in making and using briquettes when cooking and brooding chicks as well as training interested learners.

Promotion of Briquette Usage. We developed a video featuring how to use briquettes. The Video is being circulated internally as further advances to it are made. It will be made accessible for public viewing and learning in May 2022.
Way forward
Training program:
(a) Together with the Rotary Club of Sonde, Kulika has identified and drawn a training work-plan for at least 100 women in Ngora district – one of the areas adversely affected by deforestation (Eastern Uganda – some 280 km away from Kulika Training Centre). The training will last six months.
(b) We will continue conducting training towards women, within 50 kilometers radius from Kulika Training centre.
Continued support for the project: Kulika continues to request for grants/donations to realize the project budget and support practical learning by offering start up kits to women.
