Kulika Uganda Project Progress Report January 4th 2022
This report covers the period May – July 2022.
Training
1. Training Women in Eastern Uganda.
During this period, Kulika Uganda trained 100 women from Eastern Uganda. Specific training included: Practical lessons on making briquettes using manual machines, construction of the production and drying units for briquettes, making and using improved cook stoves. The women come from a region where fuel would is extremely scarce due to environmental degradation.
Benefits from trainings
With the skills learnt, the have managed to make briquettes for domestic use thus saving on time previously spent looking for fuel wood, reduction in tree cutting is beginning to be witnessed, time saving to engage in other productive activities, reduction of susceptibility of children especially girls to bad vices like dropping, early and unwanted pregnancies, rape and defilement since these may be linked to spending hours in bushed in search for fuel wood.
Training to institutions and Youth
22 Youths (14 female & 8 male) from Bethany Land Institute – Luweero District received an induction on making and using briquettes
3 university students underwent training on production and application of briquettes.
one NGO from Eastern Uganda sent a delegation of senior 3 members for and induction on briquette making and use.
Two institutions of higher learning: (Makerere University & Bukalasa Agricultural College requested Kulika to include training on briquette production on the internship program for students to be placed in September2022.
18 Youths (female) from the local community were re-skilled in using manual machines while making briquettes.
Way forward
Training program:
(a) To further the project in eastern Uganda through training women on sustainable generation of carbonization material, tree planting and seek funds to acquire more briquettemachines
(b) We will conducting training towards women, and students who have booked for September – November 2022 trainings.
Continued support for the project: Kulika continues to appeal to all possible partners for grants/donations with an aim of realizing the project budget and support practical learning by offering start up kits to women.
