Kulika Uganda Project Progress Report

The report covers the period January – April 2024. It’s the eleventh report since obtaining funds in October 2020.
Progress towards adaptation
Briquette Training: During the quarter, the project continued with training activities and making of briquettes for safe, cheaper, and clean energy as well as for income generation. hence contributing to environmental protection.
Intern Students:The Centre continued training activities in briquette making and use. A total of 44 students Youth, (15 male and 29 female) from three training institutions of learning received trainings on making, using marketing of briquettes.
Domestic cooking:During the quarter Kulika Training Centre registered at least 3 new clients (women) who appreciated and started using briquettes for domestic cooking. Meanwhile previous clients continued using briquettes: Thus, cumulatively the number of household clients using briquettes for domestic cooking grew to at least 219 from 216. During the same period the four Institutional clients continued to buy and use briquettes. These institutions mainly use briquettes to cook food for their workers.
Brooding Chicks: At least 7 clients continued using briquettes for brooding day -old chicks. Kulika Training Center has also continued to use briquettes for brooding activities.
Making and Marketing of Briquettes at Kulika Training Centre: During this period, the making and selling of briquettes continued. A total of 4,470 kg was made and sold to generate UGX4,470,000 compared to 6,960.5 kgs made and sold last quarter. This was due to the breakdown of engine which took some time to be repaired.
Extension Work among the Community: The Centre provided additional technical support to 6 women who trained on briquettes making and use. It also sensitized a group of both women and men (12 women and 6 men) about briquette making and using a way of climate change mitigation, income generation and a health energy source for home cooking.
Four (4) groups trained in North-eastern Uganda continued making and using briquettes mainly for home cooking which has helped in conserving the environment and saving time for other household chores.

Appreciation and request
Kulika Uganda continues to appreciate the generous support received from GlobalGiving. The funds received have continued to support. Training of communities on fuel saving technology through briquette making and use.
