Hello SKT Supporters,
Summer is well on its way here in Jaipur! We have already had a week of temperatures over 40 Celsius (over 104 Fahrenheit) and we were very happy to have the temperature back to spring temperatures, around 25 C (77 F). With this seasonal heat, we have started educational seminars again for the importance of Oral Rehydration Solutions (ORS). We have a supply in all our clinic locations and we have supplied packages to people in the Banjara tribe (the site of our fourth clinic) to get them started on their use. We have found that the women are especially diligent in using ORS’s and have led others to see the importance of their use. In educational seminars, we also teach how to make homemade ORS solutions.
Over the past few years, we have been actively educating the community about anemia. After years of continuous teaching and awareness efforts, we are now witnessing significant changes. As part of our anemia campaigns, we conducted random hemoglobin samplings among adolescent girls in the community. Five years ago, the results showed that 50% of the girls were anemic. However, over the years, we observed a steady decline in anemia cases.
This year, the results were even more encouraging—less than 10% of the girls were found to have anemia. This remarkable improvement reflects the impact of our ongoing awareness programs and the community’s increasing focus on health and nutrition.
Along with these unique educational meetings, we always hold street clinics, and our brick & mortar clinics are open in the evenings. We post individual stories on our website about these stories, but I wanted to highlight ‘A Fathers Gratitude’ with his comment to us: He said, “In the past seven years, my children have received treatment several times. It has been a great help. I am educated, but I don’t have much money. I work very hard to support my family, and children do fall sick. Because the clinic is so close to the slum and provides free, high-quality treatment, it has been a huge relief for our financial situation. Thanks to this support, I am able to send my children to school.”
The fundraising for our fourth clinic has been a great success and we have raised about $27,000. We have been working on blueprints for a three-floor building at our site near the Banjara Tribe (below are photos of a recent a street clinic in that area). We can start the building of the foundation and ground floor with $30,000. We anticipate the cost of the other two floors is $15,000 each.
Our blueprints include a nice front porch area, a reception, gracious waiting area, two private doctor rooms, 2 bathrooms, and a dedicated pharmacy room. The second and third floors include a large meeting area and a couple smaller rooms as well as bathrooms. The second and third floors will be very adaptable to meet the needs of the communities, doctors, and staff of SKT.
Your continued support has been a blessing to so many! Thank you!
