When one door closes, another door opens.
The last update may have had some disappointing news, but we have some better news this time. One of our board members has a workshop on their property that they no longer use, and has agreed to let us use it to foster even more animals.
The shop is a 1500 square feet engineered steel building, is centrally heated and cooled, and already has sealed concrete floors. It has a three-car attached garage that with a little work could be finished out for another 1000 square feet of space. It already has one fenced yard, and more can be added to give play areas for the adult dogs.
Dixie Adoptables always needs more space for quarantine (especially puppies), roomier space for long term dogs during their heartworm treatment or those learning to trust again.
We also usually need extra space for adult cats as our current building isn’t as large as we wished. Another challenge we face is finding quiet places for nursing mothers and orphaned puppies and kittens and this building will allow us to have separate spaces for this purpose.
One of the persistent problems we currently have at the shelter is the lack of adequate storage . This building will also provide much needed storage areas.
Foster homes are vital to our operation, and very hard to come by. Our foster system consists of board members and employees that are willing to share their homes and lives with our sweet babies. As if the availability of the building wasn’t good enough news, the board member providing the building is also willing to care for the animals that will be fostered there.
