Urgent Needs Summary
To continue and expand our services, HIS urgently requires:
These needs continue to persist as we keep seeking ways to enhance our modes of intervention. These needs are being carried over from the last report.
1. Feeding Program
We continue to look for ways to enrich the meals. We meanwhile continue with the basic options. It is important to keep feeding and keep giving life to children while ways and means to improve the quality of the food are being sought after. We need to increase meals to 2 meals a day increase nutritional variety and meet the dietary needs of more children.
.
2. Laundry Program
We have still not managed to fully relaunch our laundry Thursdays program due to limited funds. Instead of once a week we have had it done once a month. The key life skills component of kids learning and improving their hygiene remains pivotal.
3. Sports Program
Currently, sports activities at HIS are informal and limited to Saturday games. But we hope to have a sports day in April. This will give the children the opportunity to showcase their varying sporting talents.
4. Life Skills Camp
Building up on the success of the August 2024 life skills camp. We are working on having another 10 to 12 April 2025. We have seen how effective this sort of exposure is for our children. We have started a Sponsor a Child for Camp campaign with the aim of raising $30 per child.
5. School and Scholarship Support
School fees have shot up this 2025. A high scholar now needs $250 to cover fees, uniforms, and stationery. Quite a tall order given our inability to grow the funding. But, we are grateful for the funding that has helped cover our first term and a small part of our second term. We will continue to look for networks and partners to help us help the chosen children complete their studies. We still have 17 in primary school and 13 in high school. 2 have dropped out. A real cause for concern but they have their minds made up school is not for them. Our counselors continue to engage them.
6. Relocation Program and Future Planning
The first hostel we started over 12 months ago has not moved much due to struggles in harnessing the requisite funds. But our borehole fund campaign is almost there. We should have a borehole drilled by the end of April 2025. We appreciate the support to supply clean drinking water and access to clean water for possible horticultural projects.
7. Digital Literacy and Mobile Library Initiative.
This has still not had any traction but efforts to get things started continue unabated.
8. Annual Christmas party
We hosted 500 children and gave various yearly awards to all the hardworking and deserving children. This truly was the highlight of all our work and working. We will soon begin prep for the 2025 end-of-year party. Thank you for your generosity in making this a truly amazing day!!!
Summary and Acknowledgements
Harvesters in Sport Trust have continued to impact the lives of over 200 children through feeding, life skills, and recreation. The impact is evident as the lives of children continue to change. We want to appreciate all the support we have received month in and month out. It has certainly made our load lighter! Much still needs to be done, but your giving has created a foundational basis. An unshakeable foundation. A perfect springboard for growth and excellence. Thank you!
