We currently support 175 children and young people from poorer backgrounds by funding a good education (incl. vocational training), providing extra tuition in maths, English and IT when needed. Some live in a purpose-built children's home funded by DCT, where they are cared for by a small, dedicated team. Medical, dental and eye care is provided for all our supported children, with a nutrition programme and various counselling and support programmes contributing to their overall well-being.
It is an unfortunate truth that life chances are all-too-often proportional to family income: the poorer a child's background, the worse their prospects. We transform the lives of children and young people from poorer backgrounds (currently we are supporting 175) who would otherwise be denied a fair chance in life.
We address these children's needs by providing programmes embracing education and health; improvements to living conditions; school and college sponsorships; and a range of other activities designed to advance their well-being and personal development. In doing so, we provide a firm foundation on which these children can build a good future for themselves and their families. The consistent feedback we get from children who have gone out into the world is that we changed their lives.
Trustees' biggest motivation for supporting children and young people in 2025 is that, many decades from now, whole families will look back and be grateful that people (most of whom they'll never have met) thought that they were worth helping; that their ability to thrive in a competitive world and, in time, give their children a good education, derived from the generosity of DCT's small but committed supporters.
