Dear Supporters,
Mercy Corps has deployed two staff members from our Beijing office to earthquake-affected areas of Sichuan Province. Working alongside our longtime local partner China Foundation for Poverty Alleviation (CFPA), we are procuring critical supplies such as food, water, clothing and shelter supplies to rush to affected families.
"CFPA wants to work hand-in-hand with Mercy Corps," explained Kate Janis, Mercy Corps' Senior Program Officer, currently on the ground in Sichuan's capital, Chengdu. "They want to have us alongside them all the way."
Today Janis and another team member are accompanying CFPA emergency workers to Chongqing, a city severely affected by the earthquake, to set up a temporary relief office from which they will coordinate efforts.
We will keep you updated as our response continues reaching survivors and families affected by Monday's earthquake.
Sincerely, Roger Burks
