Hello friend,
We are delighted to share that clean water is coming to Kangweni in Kitui county!
Raising Futures Kenya and our Kenyan-led partner have worked with the community in Kangweni in Kitui for over 20 years, where we have been supporting young people through our Seed of Hope vocational training centre. During this time we've seen the families and rural community we work alongside become increasingly vulnerable to cycles of climate shocks, which have caused crops to fail, and to hunger increase, and women and girls walk long distances to fetch clean, affordable water.
There is a clear and urgent need to create a permanent, accessible water source for the community - for drinking and growing food.
Thanks to funds raised through this project, offline donations from community groups, and a significant grant from a UK-based Trust, we have the funds available to dig a 240 meter deep well on our Seed of Hope Kangweni vocational training centre site! Access will be open to the community, and provide over 200 local people per day with an easy-to-reach, safe, clean, water source.
We are happily closing this GlobalGiving project as the funds raised now cover the full scope of the project for the urgent need for water and for long-term impact! This includes creation of a demonstration farm for agribusiness training for 300 local community members per year, enabling adaptation to changing climate conditions, improved food security and year-round income. The farm will also provide produce to supplement daily lunches for 410 children and young people per year at our training centre, cutting food costs to support the running of the centre.
We thank you, our supporters through GlobalGiving, who have helped to make this possible.
We'd love to stay connected, so please consider signing up to our mailing list, follow us on Facebook, Instagram, or LinkedIn, and check out our other projects here on GlobalGiving.
Huge thanks and every best wish,
Leela and the Raising Futures Kenya team
