New Chelly Scholarships Awarded for Fall 2017

By Jason R. Baron | President, The Chelly Foundation

Our new Chelly Scholars for 2017
Our new Chelly Scholars for 2017

Thanks again to all of the donors to The Chelly Foundation's campaign to provide college scholarships for young women in the rural district of Chumkuri in Cambodia.

I am happy to report that as of this semester an additional two young women who graduated from Hun Sen Chum Kiri High School in Chumkuri District are receiving full Chelly Scholarships to attend the Royal University of Phnom Penh.  All expenses (tuition, books, uniforms, and room and board) will continue to be paid for four years, on the condition that each individual continues to be a student in good standing.  (In addition, through separate donations, we are also funding an additional scholarship for one young man who graduated from the same high school this past year.)  All three new Chelly Scholars are pictured here.

These students were selected based on their test results on the national exam for graduating high school, recommendations received from the Principal of the high school, and personal interviews of the students and their families conducted by Nop Ess, our in-country Director. Only students who come from the poorest families that cannot afford the cost of their children going to college are eligible.   In next year's cycle (Fall 2018), two more young women will be selected in the same fashion to receive scholarships.

We are presently supporting eight young women and two young men going to the Royal University of Phnom Penh and other institutions of higher learning in the city.  Everyone is continuing to do excellently in school, and some of the students have part-time jobs.  Thanks to GlobalGiving and all of our donors, we are changing the lives of students and their families for the better.

And please check out on Facebook all of the other activities and projects we have going on through next year....www.facebook.com/thechellyfoundation....

Thank you again to all our supporters!
