Rural Watch Africa Initiative (RUWAI) is launching a community-led tree nursery in Kwali Area, FCT, to fight deforestation, restore land, and support livelihoods. Using donated land, RUWAI will train displaced people, youth, women, and students in tree nursery management, tree planting, and agroforestry. The project aims to raise 20,000 seedlings in its first year, boosting RUWAI's annual community tree planting, climate resilience and food security.
Nigeria loses 400,000-600,000 hectares of forest yearly (FAO, 2020), driving desertification, biodiversity loss, and food insecurity. Conflict and climate shocks force migration into North Central areas like Kwali, worsening land degradation. RUWAI's community-led nursery trains youth, women, and displaced people in tree-growing and agroforestry, restoring ecosystems and building green livelihoods in rural Nigeria.
RUWAI's tree nursery in Kwali will train displaced people, youth, women, and students in tree nursery management, agroforestry, and land restoration. It empowers communities to lead afforestation and conservation efforts while promoting climate education. By integrating tree-based value chains, the project boosts food security, restores degraded land, and creates green jobs for a sustainable future.
RUWAI's tree nursery will combat deforestation, improve air quality, and restore ecosystems by planting thousands of trees annually. It creates green jobs in agroforestry and eco-enterprises, boosting livelihoods and resilience. By promoting biodiversity, soil restoration, and climate adaptation, the project builds self-sufficient communities and offers a scalable model for climate action across Nigeria.
