This Initiative targets the Mandlakazi region of northern Kwa-Zulu Natal, addressing poverty, hunger, and inadequate services. By establishing food gardens, boreholes and permaculture techniques as well as building and developing early learning centers (creches) which support over 167 children and their families the ZCT strives to implement food and water security and environmental education programs to foster conservation awareness among youth as well as much more for the Mandlakazi Region.
Communities in the Mandlakazi and KwaSekhane regions struggle with poverty, food insecurity, and limited access to basic services, exacerbating environmental degradation and human-wildlife conflicts. Moreover, communities near protected areas lack access to resources and infrastructure, impacting early learning centres' sustainability and hindering conservation education efforts.
The initiative proposes multifaceted solutions, including agro-ecological food gardens and boreholes for water access in Mandlakazi. In KwaSekhane, the focus is on green gardens, commercial farming, and market partnerships. Early learning centres receive upgrades for sustainability, including eco-friendly facilities and expanded capacity. Environmental education programs engage youth through interactive experiences and support disadvantaged students with essential resources and tutoring.
The initiative aims for lasting benefits, such as improved food security, economic opportunities, and community resilience in Mandlakazi and KwaSekhane. By fostering cooperation between communities and conservation efforts, the project promotes sustainable development and environmental stewardship for future generations. Through ongoing support and education, it aims to create a legacy of empowered communities and thriving ecosystems in the region.
