Dear Friends of the WomenLead Institute at Counterpart International,

I am excited to update you on our ongoing campaign to raise COVID-19 relief funds for women-led organizations around the globe. Your generous donations have provided communities with opportunities to generate income, support rural populations, and aid grassroots organizations. Below are just a few stories of how you have made an impact.

Mozambique: Khulibwa Smoked Products, Lda. (KSP) supports women farmers, youth, and girls with low literacy in the creation of high-quality products sold commercially and at international markets. COVID-19 halted international commerce and tourism and reduced local commerce significantly, leaving many without a source of income. KSP used its relief funds to train women to process and conserve harvested goods in order to make high-quality and competitive products to sell at local fairs. Further, KSP is purchasing various types of machinery that will allow women to dehydrate, package, fill, seal, and stamp barcodes on their products. KSP will train farmers, women, youth, and girls to use the new machinery and is already negotiating with the government for new markets.

Nigeria: Greene Happy Home Care is a women and youth-centered organization dedicated to providing entrepreneurial and empowerment skills to foster community development. The organization worked during the COVID-19 pandemic to inform its beneficiaries of hygienic practices and available relief programs. Greene Happy Home Care was also able to partner with the Nigerian Television Authority and the International Federation of Female Lawyers to reach out to women affected by domestic violence and abuse during the country’s lockdown.

Papua New Guinea: The Komo Evangelical Church in Port Moresby connects members of the community to business and capacity building opportunities, including resilience training during times of conflict. With their COVID relief funds, church leaders were able to purchase sewing machines and materials to produce clothing for distribution throughout the capital.

Thank you again for your generous donation. We will continue to support women-led organizations around the globe as funds become available and look forward to sharing more stories with you.
