Dear Friends of the WomenLead Institute (WLI) at Counterpart International,
I am excited to update you on our ongoing campaign to raise COVID-19 relief funds for women-led organizations around the globe. Your generous donations have provided communities with opportunities to generate income, support rural populations, and aid grassroots organizations. Below is just one story of how you have made an impact.
Papua New Guinea: The Hides and Juha Women’s Groups provide leadership and governance trainings to local women in central Papua New Guinea. These trainings support marginalized communities and promote income generating activities in economically disadvantaged areas. One of the trainers, Julie, is a proud member of the Advancing Papua New Guinea: Women Leaders Network, a group of WLI alumni using their skills and expertise to create positive and sustainable change at the grassroots level.
With her COVID relief funds, Julie and the Hides and Juha Women’s Groups trained community members on sewing and weaving bilums, traditional bags made from local plant materials that could be sold at markets. They also purchased food to cook meals for HIV/AIDS patients at a nearby hospital who were isolating due to COVID restrictions and national health guidelines.
Thank you again for your generous donation. We will continue to support women-led organizations around the globe as funds become available and look forward to sharing more stories with you.
