Dear Friends of the WomenLead Institute (WLI) at Counterpart International:
I am excited to update you on the progress of our ongoing campaign to raise COVID-19 relief funds for women-led organizations around the globe. Your generous donations have provided communities with opportunities to improve women’s mental health, provide rural populations better access to resources, and aid grassroots organizations in their unique missions. Below is just one story of how you have made an impact.
Romania: A locally led non-profit, Touched Romania, provides holistic social services to women who are victims of domestic violence, social exclusion, and poverty. They organize several social programs, such as Hagar Home maternal center, a shelter for local mothers in need and their babies as well as a community center to support the socio-professional integration of these women and their children. In addition to continuing their support for local mothers, Touched Romania has recently taken on providing shelter, food, and counseling to Ukrainian refugee mothers in need, and their children.
Costs of everyday essentials have been rising in Romania, making it more difficult for Touched Romania to keep up on their own. Funds from this Covid relief effort have helped Touched Romania cover the costs of providing personal hygiene products and groceries to the families who are in their care. In addition, they have been able to host more community events for women and children. The supportive community Touched Romania continues to build helps raise awareness about mental health and build the power of resiliency to support the mothers with their overall well-being so they can help their families and communities.
