Another lockdown.. but our kids are safe!

Food Distribution in Korogocho
Food Distribution in Korogocho

One year has gone by since the beginning of the pandemic, and the past few months have been very complicated for our Community in the slums of Nairobi.

The school term had just ended on March 18th and few days later the Government decided it was time for another lockdown due to a spike in covid cases. There was a lot of fear because lockdown now means impossibility to work or go to school, and for the 2.500 kids in our primary schools in Korogocho and Dandora and their families there was no chance to survive.

We immediately set up the emergency plan developed last year to cover for the one-moth lockdown, reaching every child in our community and his family through:

- Food distribution to prevent malnutrition and the worsening of our kids' health situation (in some cases already compromised due to HIV and other chronic diseases such as sickle-cell anemia);

- Medical home visits to monitor our kids and their families closely, thanks to our social workers and our nurse who were able to identify the most serious cases and refer them to one of the best hospitals in Nairobi for treatment.

We succeed in keeping the situation under control and stay close to our Community until the end of the lockdown and the schools' reopening on May 10th.

Our project now continues to help out the families who are struggling financially, and the children who are in need of extra support, especially those who are struggling with their health.

WE ARE INCREDIBLY GRATEFUL TO OUR DONORS to let us continue our activities and develop new paths of intervention for our beneficiaries.
