Empowering Family Counselors to Support Survivors of Violence: A New Era of Training in Egypt
In the heart of Cairo and Giza, an innovative wave of change is taking root. We had successfully launched a groundbreaking training program aimed at identifying and referring to women and girls subjected to violence — and it’s unlike anything seen before in Egypt.
Understanding that traditional methods are no longer enough, in partnership with the National Population Council, we introduced an unprecedented approach: interactive video simulations. For the first time, family counselors were not just passive learners but active participants in real-world scenarios. Each decision they made during the videos changed the outcome, mirroring the complexities and critical nature of real-life interventions. Through this hands-on experience, counselors gained deeper empathy, sharpened their decision-making skills, and learned how to build safer, more supportive environments for survivors.
The training provided 60 family counselors — often the first line of support for many women and girls — with practical tools to recognize signs of violence, respond sensitively, and guide survivors toward the help they need. It’s not just education; it's transformation.
This initiative is not only breaking ground — it’s laying the foundation for a future where no woman or girl in Egypt feels invisible or unheard.
But this is only the beginning.
With your support, we can expand this revolutionary training to reach more communities, more counselors, and ultimately, protect more lives. Together, we can turn innovation into impact.
Your contribution is changing the story for women and girls across Egypt.
