By Sara Belhay | PeaceJam UK Project Officer

Student from 2018 conference 'Challenging 'isms'

Following the success of last year’s conference themed around ‘Exploring ‘isms’, Bradford Academy are hosting a one day conference with the support of PeaceJam UK on  Saturday 29 June. Students from Bradford and the surrounding area will explore ‘Building Bridges through Sport’ with keynote speaker Sadia Ali- the first Pakistani Muslim Program Executive to work for the England & Wales Cricket Board.

University students from Bradford and Leeds will receive mentor training in order to facilitate small group discussions around conflict resolution, and how sport can be used as a tool to bridge peace. Local charities and sports groups will be invited to deliver sports based workshops that focus on one or more of PeaceJam’s One Billion Acts of Peace issue areas. Students will be tasked with planning a social change project that tackles the most pressing issues in their community as part of PeaceJam’s One Billion Acts of Peace campaign.

Bradford Academy first got involved in PeaceJam in 2008. Since then, they have now fully implemented the programme across the school; testament to the transformational impact it has on young people. The PeaceJam programme relies on donors like you in order to give young people the unique opportunity to meet and learn from an inspirational role model. Thank you for supporting our project to create young leaders, this makes a big difference to the work we do with young people; particularly those from deprived areas in the UK.
