Create 4,000 UK Young Leaders from Deprived Areas

We continue to organise events for young people to inspire and educate, and help them feel empowered to take action to improve their lives and the lives of others.  And, with the very generous funding from our GlobalGiving donors, we are now able to ensure that these events for young people really are led by young people, “for young people, by young people”. 

The youngest two members of our PeaceJam UK Leadership Team (also members of our PeaceJam UK Youth Leadership Team) are now contracted, on a part-time basis, to engage with schools and youth groups, manage our social media, plan our conferences, and lead our Youth Leadership Team.  So, as a follow-on from our one-day, PeaceJam UK Slam at the University of Winchester in March 2023, they are planning a two-day conference at the same venue in March 2024 with similar enthusiasm and commitment. 

The dates are yet to be confirmed, but the issues being tackled at this event remain those about which young people are most concerned, climate change, conflict resolution, and refugees.  There is much excitement within the Youth Leadership Team about the event, and we are also planning a programme of training and mentoring for the Team to develop their skills for the task.  However, there is clearly a determination and a “Yes we can!” attitude that is growing, as we encourage them to make key decisions and take the lead.
