eetings to all of the Medic Outpost Family,
What a busy few months we have had at Medic Outpost. There were back to back trips to do a short TED talk in Scotland about Medic Outpost and the need for community-based healthcare. Maybe I could have been a little more kind to the international medical community about what I call "the arrogance of modern healthcare". They needed to hear it whether they liked it or not. Then it was back to Kenya for the Medic Outpost Afya Kid's project. It was a great success and I am hoping we can continue to fund this important program. The Medic Outpost Africa Team is working to treat intestinal parasites in primary schools in the slums on the outskirts of Nairobi. The team is also providing some unique childrens first aid programs and conducting health and hygiene training for all ages. Most of these children have no healthcare at all and the Afya Kid's program is all they will get. We are hoping to open this program up to volunteers on our next trip over to Kenya You do not have to be a healthcare provider to go. If you have healthcare experience then we can put you to work. It will be a hands on project so just get ready for that.
Dr. Garcia and have just returned from some very remote mountain villages in Hidalgo. We conducted midwife training for 22 remote midwives who each deliver about 50 newborns a year. As always, our team provides the training and equipment for these midwives free of charge. Each "partera" gets a complete kit with sterile equipment and instructions along with critical lifesaving devices. If you do the math, our program touchs approximately 1100 newborns each year. The Medic Outpost kits cost about 110.00 USD to build if we can buy supplies in bulk, so if you would like to help support this project please let me know.
I am continuing to provide CPR/AED courses at no charge to rural communities. We have done the Terlingua Pump and Blow last month and are scheduling more around the state. Our goal is to develop CPR teams in areas without that capability. If you know of a location that needs help or would like to help us on the ground in the planning, please let me know. I can use all the help I can get.
Our goal for the rest of the year is to raise funds to keep these 3 programs alive. We have saved lives this year with our training and I am very proud of our efforts. One life is worth all of the effort. Please support us and help us spread the word. If you would like to volunteer for medic Outpost then please let me know. There are many areas were anyone can help.
Thank you for your trust and support,
Larry
