We launched this campaign in response to the covid lockdown in Morocco last year. It was the first time we had had to close the EFA houses. This meant the girls all had to return to their villages for 3 months leaving them stranded as they had little or no means to access online lessons over those 3 months. Many had exams coming up, and yet they had no means of revising for their studies.
" I actually started to feel afraid that the school might never open again. For me I didn’t even have access to see classes on television and I didn’t have phone access in my village, so I felt completely isolated." Oumaima, 17 years
This campaign meant that we could purchase tablets for the final year students who had impending exams. They said they would not have been able to sit the exams without them! Thankfully the houses opened again last September, however lessons have been reduced to meet distancing guidelines. Continuing with this campaign has meant we have been able to purchase more computers so that the girls can engage in many helpful online activities, including our volunteer programme which shifted online and many interesting webinars.
"When I finally heard that school would start again, I was very excited. Being back at EFA really helps me study. I get support from my friends and housemothers and I can use a computer." Khadija, 16 years
The pandemic revealed that there is a stark digital divide in Morocco, especially for rural girls. Your support has meant we can bridge that gap in a variety of ways, equipping them with vital skills and digital confidence to get them through this unusual time and prepare them for University and better employment opportunities in the future.
Thank you!
