Dear Supporter,
We probably cannot imagine a life without being connected with our devices to the internet- but this is a reality for most of the EFA girls and indeed many young people who live in countries and regions where they fall on the wrong side of the digital divide.
Girls from rural areas face so many obstacles in their edcuation, and not having digital skills is often not highlighted, even though it is an essential part of learning and working in the 21st Century.
Oumiama shared with her Sponsor how it was to being able to access computers during the last school year:
"This year I would like to share with you about my life during Corona Virus. When they first shut down the schools in the middle of March it felt like a holiday and I was actually happy to be at home with my family. However, as time passed, I started feeling very sad and empty and missing school because since I was 5 years old it has always been a big part of my life.
During this time, I didn’t have any contact with my teachers. Course work was programed on television, but I found it very difficult to follow. Now I a back at the EFA houses full time, I realise I am lucky to be able to use computers here. We don't have computers in our village. I can do research for my homework and write out my essays. I can also make study circles with my friends and share rerouces and information. Hopefully when I am older I can get a good job thanks to having these skills with computers."
This year at EFA, 33 girls passed their Baccaleureat and almost all of those enrolled at University. Two more girls were awarded full scholarships to a University in Casablanca and Kabira got her Master's Degree!
We are pround of all the girls and are grateful to all of you for being part of the movement to close the educational and digital gap and give every girl the chance to reach her potential! THANK YOU!
