It is Saturday, the 22nd of April and we are excited. Even the rain cannot wash our happiness away. Our pupils are having their very first Sports’ Day event. This year, sports was introduced into the curriculum. In preparation for the day, the children each morning engaged in different sports including; athletics, tire race, and tag of war among others.
Immediately the rain ceased, and the event began. With a lot of enthusiasm and zeal, the event was kicked off with a word of prayer and the National anthem. The energetic team of teachers led the children into different sports activities. The first activity was athletics. The children were grouped into 3 and competed against each other. The next game was beading. Here, the children raced to put beads onto one string and the winner was the one who reached the finish line first. More interesting games like; beading, step-by-step, daddy’s shoes, bean bag balancing, sack race, obstacle race, bottle filling, balloon bursting, and chair dance.
At the end of the event, 12 winners were announced and awarded medals for their expectational participation. The team leader, Aaron Kirunda, then concluded the event with closing remarks. For good physical fitness and strength, sport is an integral part of life. Sports make our life interesting, teach us to work hard, and push our limits to reach a new high. Sports teach discipline, respect, friendship, leadership, resilience, teamwork, and overcoming adversity. It is a crucial part of a student’s growth and development. A good school not only aims to improve a student’s physical abilities but also helps them learn a sense of good sportsmanship. We saw all this happen that day.
Intending to build a well-rounded child, we believe that from this event the children learned as much as they learn in the classroom.
