St Martins School Update and Report - April 2025

By Alfred Muheria Aswan | Project Liaison

Dear Sponsors and Donors,

We are nearing the end of the first team of 2025, and we are more than grateful for our progress, thanks to your continued support. Below are some of this term's activities and achievements.

Open day

We reopened school on the 6th of January 2025. The term had 13 learning weeks. Most of our students reported back after the long November - December break. We welcomed them back and were grateful that we did not lose any students as has always been the case due to the economic challenges facing many families living in the Kibagare slum and Nairobi in general.

New Students

This term, we welcomed 71 new students to Pre-Primary 1. They have integrated well into the school and its environment and have had a good start to their learning year. Our teachers have been very helpful in ensuring that they settle in well, and we are more than grateful for their commitment to the well-being of our students.

Athletics

The School curriculum encourages sports and extracurricular activities as an integral part of a child's learning development. We as a school encourage our students to participate in as many activities as possible and this term we had 88 students participating in Athletics at the zonal, sub-county, and county competitions in short races and long races. They have performed very well at the various levels and are awaiting results to determine if they will be participating at the National level later this year.

Basketball

Two teams of 20 students participated in the basketball in inter-school competitions at the Zonal level. Due to high competition they did not manage to proceed past the Zonal and are hopeful they will do better next year.

Football and Volleyball

Girls in high school participated in Football and Volleyball inter-school competitions at the Zonal, County, and regional levels and have done well and are awaiting their results to determine if they will represent the school at the National level later this year.

Field and Track Events

Our students have also participated in Field and track events this term in Javelin, Shortput, Long Jump, Triple jumps, and discus competitions. We excelled at the zonal, sub-county, and county levels and two of our students have qualified for the national championships that will be held later this year.

Exams and Graduating Students

The first cohort of grade 9 students will be graduating this year. 77 students are expected to graduate this year and join senior school in 2026. 72 students in grade 6 and 34 students in High school will also be sitting their national exams in October and November this year. Grade 6 students will proceed to Junior high while the girls in high school will be eligible to join colleges and universities next year.

Students have done their opener, mid-term, and end-term exams in this first term of 2025 and they have done very well thanks to their commitment and hard work and that of their teachers and the support staff. We have seen an improvement in the overall school grades and student performances and we hope to build on these as we prepare for the national exams and the second term of this year.

Closing Day

The school will be closing this week for a three-week holiday break. We are grateful for the much we have been able to achieve this term and are looking forward to the next term which starts on the 29th of April. We will have a closing assembly today and celebrate the top performers who have excelled in different disciplines.

Sponsorship Renewals

Sponsorship Renewals for the current year are well underway for those who have subscribed for the monthly and annual options. The renewals are critical in ensuring that our students receive quality education, learning materials, uniforms, access to technology, meals, and a conducive learning environment. Your generosity directly impacts the lives of many children allowing them access to education without financial barriers. With continued sponsorship, we can provide more students with the resources they need to succeed. Thank you for making a lasting impact and difference in our children's lives.

In conclusion, we look forward to your continued support as we continue to provide the best for our children. Thank you for being a part of our journey.

Best Regards,

Alfred M Aswani
