Fall '19 Program Report

By Sadie Green | Director of Nepal Program Development

Thanks to our incredible donors and hard-working students, this has been another exciting time of growth and success. Currently, there are 94 students enrolled in HCC’s Rural Education Scholarship Program, with five new students enrolled into the program this quarter!

Regular follow-up and monitoring of our students' wellbeing and academic progress is of utmost importance, and our social workers stay busy day in and day out doing this work, traveling throughout the remote districts where our students live. We do this to ensure that the most highly underprivileged yet motivated children and youth in Nepal have the opportunities they deserve to pursue their educations and their bright futures.

Meet two of our newest students, enrolled this quarter, thanks to your generous support:

Since these siblings lost their father to cancer, they have been fighting for the basic necessities of life. Their young widowed mother, while fiercely determined to provide her children with a good life and education, does not bring in sufficient income with the poultry farming she does in her home. She works hard, but struggles to provide for the daily needs of her family. The two older sisters (pictured above) are in school, in grades 7 and 4, and are both extremely talented in their students. Their teachers were very worried when the girls started missing significant amounts of school because of their difficult family circumstances. Now, with HCC support, they are back in school full time and doing extremely well, both at the top of their class. They have big dreams. The eldest sister says, “I want to grow up to be a successful person and support my family.”
