Fugee School’s Second Term Activities
Fugee School’s Bridging the Gap in education program kicked off early in the year where teacher and students contribute more time with appropriate resources to ensure each student is on the right track. Simultaneously, better organization and management has led to smoother planning of the school term with the syllabus and teacher’s lesson plans discussed a week ahead.
Another new approach to growing personal and moral growth amongst students is by setting themes in terms of values. In term 2, Fugee School will conduct assemblies and workshops based on the following everyday values each student is encouraged to adopt: ambition, determination, diversity, inclusion and acceptance.
Fugee’s Day with GinRikSha
Gin Rik Sha, a highly-rated fusion restaurant in Kuala Lumpur have become fast friends with Fugee School through our launch of Fugee’s coffee-table book, You’re In, Not Out. Ms. Puan Sri Gita Menon, the founder gave inspiring speeches and spoke individually with Fugee students about building capacities. In the near future, opportunities to partner up with Gin Rik Sha to train and prime students with the necessary professional skills are in consideration.
Fugee Football Tournament - Ages 9-14
Fugee School’s dedication in football is huge. 22 boys teamed up and participated in a tournament held at Futsal court for 3 hours straight. And the efforts bore fruit with the champions and runner-ups receiving trophies and medals to celebrate their success with all teams.
The initiative was 100% organised by students for students. Some of the individuals serving in the organising committee are from Fugee School who trained and bought the trophies and refreshments. Students taking up positions as coaches and players is above all else a source of self-agency sustained.
Drum For Hope x Fo Guang Shan - #CNY2020
Drum for Hope is a programme that empowers refugee students through art and music, in particular, learning how to play drums and performing. The concert series is a partnership between Hands Percussion drum troupe, Maybank Investment Bank Bhd and Fugee School.
As a tribute to Chinese New Year festivities, the troupe played Chinese drums to be a part of the auspicious celebrations of the Year of the Rat. They were invited to play at a temple as part of unity to welcome the new year.
