Educate a Girl Governor's House Sindh

By Rafea Khatak | Project Volunteer

We are thrilled to be educating girls in person again. Recently, we vocationally educated 95 of the daughters of the staff of Sindh Governor House, Karachi.  We educated the daughters of the guards, the sweepers, the tea boys, the protocol officers, and so forth.

"The education of girls is very important to both Sindh and Pakistan, and the education of the daughters of our Governor House Sindh staff is very dear to my heart. It is a real privilege to have Dawood Global Foundation through its Educate a Girl by LADIESFUND vocationally train 85 of our staff’s daughters in soft skills, communication and media studies, and career navigation, all of which is critical for their success in life. We wish them the best in their schooling and career," said Governor Sindh Imran Ismail.

“It is essential to provide opportunities to women for their betterment and progress,’ was famously said by Muhammad Ali Jinnah, Quaid-i-Azam.

Governor Sindh also donated sewing machines to 20 scholars, daughters of Governor House Sindh staff.

Educate a Girl vocational scholarships are merit and need based trainings to uplift girls and young women and position them for fast track rising in their career paths. Trainings include coding, e-commerce, media studies, financial literacy, writing and communication skills, how to job interview successfully, how to negotiate salaries, art and culture, entrepreneurial skills, and money management. Many of our alumni have gone on to esteemed jobs, including 8 news anchors, multiple award-winning journalists, international fellowship winners, entrepreneurs, and so forth.

In 2016, we held our first training at Sindh Governor House.  Several scholars went on to successful career paths, some become our interns and one our LADIESFUND Bachelors scholarship winner, where we funded her bachelors at Iqra University. For this course, we have selected some of the most brilliant minds and achievers across our nation to train the 85 girls and young women who are the daughters of the staff of Sindh Governor’s House. In addition to art history trainings by sculptor Amin Gulgee and Sibtain Naqvi, the scholars were given tours of the artwork and Amin’s famous sculpture in the lobby of Sindh Governor’s House.

Kiran Zubair representing the State Bank of Pakistan taught them financial literacy and money management, Moneeza Butt taught How to Navigate the Workplace as a Woman, Zehra Mehdi How to Interview for a Job and Succeed in Getting the Positions You Want, and Tamie Adaya and Soraya Rahim spoke on believing in your dreams and negotiating for your wants.  The French Consul General Christian Testot encouraged and guided the girls to consider and apply for international educational and job opportunities and to learn foreign languages.

Deepak Perwani taught them how to dress appropriately for the workplace.  Chairman NEPRA Touseef Farooqui will speak on Navigating Your Career to the Top and Chairman NEPRA Touseef Farooqui will speak on Navigating Your Career to the Top. Khursheed Hyder, Zurain Imam and Erum Noor Muzaffar taught on Effective Communication and Uzman Jaffery on The Art of Storytelling. Sana Pirzada spoke extensively on sexual harassment and protection of the body, and Hameeda Khan of Sensei Zain Imam’s Dojo taught self-defense tips. Emu of Fuzon surprised all with an emotional session on The Power of Music. These soft skills trainings are truly world class and prepare the scholars for career growth and success.  We wish them all the best of luck!
