Camp for Peace Liberia employs 35 youths in the Agriculture Industry

By B. Abel Learwellie | Executive Director

Youth engage in cassava processing.
Youth engage in cassava processing.

After the war, I went to high school at the age of 23 and then joined the agriculture program of CfP. Now I’m working with my peers in our cassava farm, supported by CfP. I’m so happy that now I can make money with my work and send my two kids to school. My dream is to have my farm someday. (Garmai).

During the period under review, Camp for Peace got an excellent result in its agriculture project. We gained local and national recognization for our effort in promoting food security and enhancing the agricultural Industry in Liberia. There is always a saying that says there is one thing to go to school and there is also another thing to employ what you learn. Over the years, Camp for Peace Liberia has graduated hundreds of youths in various disciplines including agriculture. During the period under review, 35 graduates of the Educational Project for marginalized got employment with the Camp for Peace Cassava Processing Plant in Zorzor Lofa County.

The sponsors and supporters of the project have expressed great delight in the progress made in the project. They belives that Camp for Peace Liberia model of development is a model that needs to be repeated in other developing countries in Africa.  They have encouraged Camp for Peace Liberia to keep the fire burning as they reach many marginalized youths who do not have the means of exploring educational and employment opportunities.

Also, the local communities recognized the effort of the project and promised to continue working with Camp for Peace in making their community a better place where their children are transformed and prepared for the job market.

A local chief said "if only our children will continue to learn and work, he is convinced that our community will be a place of peace and development.
