The most striking issue under review is the resurfacing of the deadly COVID 19 with its Delta variant in Liberia. The variant has rapidly spread throughout the country, thus overwhelming hospitals and taking an aggressive death tour on the local population. World Health Organization (WHO) and the American Embassy have declared Liberia a red zone due to the surge of the COVID 19 Variant. The Government of Liberia has enforced mandatory health regulations, including the compulsory wearing of masks, washing hands, keeping a safe distance, and keeping away from crowded places. But due to the poverty and ignorance of our society, these regulations are complicated to hold, if not impossible. Before the outbreak of COVID 19, the Liberian health sector was already devastated by the lack of drugs, professionals, health petitioners, and other medical equipment. This new outbreak has made the situation even worse. The entire country is sick, and everyone is seeking self-medication to keep themselves saved. In addition to this grief surge of the COVID 19 and already devastated Liberia economy has gone into a coma.
Despite these challenging conditions, we continue to operate our vocation school alone with other post-training activities. We have put a straight mandate mandatory for all staff and students to wear their masks, keep a distance from each other, and regularly and frequently wash their hands during all activities. We also provide face masks for those that cannot afford them during school and other project implementation.
During the period under review, we constructed a multiple-purpose hall for our students and graduates. The multiple-purpose complex will host extra classes, conduct meetings and workshops, store goods, and serve as a conducive hall for packaging. The building has a bedroom apartment containing two rooms where guests who want to stay overnight can sleep. It is well lighted with solar lights, thus presenting a beautiful view overnight.
The good news is that the building was constructed by graduates who graduated from the school years back. This return shows a greater appreciation of our students and demonstrates the degree of contextualizing the knowledge and skills acquired from the school.
During the pre-dedicatory, one community elder said these words "this building symbolizes a true community response to seeing the skill being replicated in this manner. I have never seen a development like this simple, practical, and locally owned by those who benefit from it. This achievement is what we call ownership. The elder concluded,". The elder also uses the event to extend the deepest appreciation to Camp for Peace, and all those using their hard earn money to make development possible in Liberia.
