At the beginning of this year, Camp for Peace Liberia expanded its vocational program to include women.
During the period under review, a three-room building was dedicated to accommodate 76 women in the vocational program. The local government authority in Salayea did the dedication. The building is now being used to enhance Camp for Peace Liberia's ability to host the additional training that has been added to the existing one. About 5,000 women participants are expected to learn how to weave and sew clothes, and the training is also expected to enhance economic prosperity among these women and their neighboring communities.
The act of weaving and sewing are innovative approaches that rebirthing traditional weaving culture practiced by our parents a long time ago. This innovation also prevents the total breakdown of rural communities and provides economic independence. It also creates a power base amongst these rural women and their surrounding communities, especially economic power and dignity. Six months into the training, they are beginning to run the thread.
