During the period under review, Camp for Peace Liberia completed the construction of a four-classroom building as part of the expansion of its vocational training program. This newly constructed facility provides a dedicated training environment for general building construction, which encompasses trades such as electricity, plumbing, masonry, and carpentry. These courses were specifically requested by the local communities based on their recommendations, highlighting the need for these skills in the area. These new offerings are in addition to our existing courses in general agriculture, tailoring, and weaving.
In response to the needs of single mothers attending the vocational school, we also created a special classroom dedicated to childcare. This space provides a safe and supportive learning environment for their children, enabling the mothers to focus on their studies. The childcare program includes a playground where the children can play under the supervision of trained childcare teachers. This initiative has greatly alleviated the burden on mothers who would otherwise struggle to balance learning with caring for their children. Currently, 25 children are enrolled in our childcare program.
A total of 100 students were enrolled and began training in the expanded program. Of these, 10 students are pursuing general agriculture, 10 in carpentry, 10 in plumbing, 10 in masonry, and 10 in electricity. Additionally, we have 25 students enrolled in tailoring and another 25 in weaving. To complement these vocational skills, we also offer psychosocial counseling, life skills development in leadership, peacebuilding, and entrepreneurship, all integrated with soft skills for a comprehensive approach to personal and professional growth.
We anticipate that the expansion of our program will provide even more vulnerable youth with the opportunity to learn valuable skills, take responsibility for their own lives, and contribute to the growth and development of their communities.
During the dedication program, several success stories were shared, highlighting the profound impact of our vocational training. One participant expressed, "Camp for Peace vocational program is a safe haven in this district. I can’t imagine what my life would be like if Camp for Peace had not come to this region. I was practically dying, unable to find shelter and food for me and my children. Since joining the Camp for Peace vocational program and learning weaving, I am now able to earn money to support my three children, send them to school, and provide meals for them. Thanks to Camp for Peace Liberia."
Another participant shared, "Words are not enough to express how delighted I am to be a product of Camp for Peace Liberia. My husband died four years ago, leaving me with nothing to care for my children. We had no shelter, let alone the means to send my children to school. Through the training I received in tailoring, I now have my own tailor shop and can afford to pay rent, provide meals, and send my children to school. We are deeply grateful to Camp for Peace Liberia and the partners who support this program."
These testimonials speak volumes about the impact of our work, and we cannot express our gratitude enough to our partners for their unwavering support in making this program a success. As the demand for expansion continues to grow, your donations are vital in making a difference in the lives of these beneficiaries.
