The use of art as a therapeutic resource helps channel emotions, face painful situations and express experiences, even those that are difficult to verbalize. The artistic language encompasses various forms of symbolic communication such as plastic (painting, drawing, watercolor, sculpture, among others), music, poetry, theater and dance. In addition, it shows positive results in children and adolescents, since at this stage of life there is a greater predisposition to manipulate objects and transform them, a fundamental objective of art.
Art is an instrument that allows the individual to express their experiences through alternative means to the word, it is very useful with people who have difficulties in expressive language, and helps them communicate their emotions, fantasies, dreams and desires without the use of words. , that is to say that they manage to show their inner world without being forced.
In Wasi Esperanza we find cases like that of Camilia, a teenager of few words and with a great predisposition to art and to do new things, her diagnosis is Down Syndrome, she is 14 years old and was studying in a regular school, unfortunately she had to abandon her classes and staying home after suffering a very strong aggression, this situation made her very sad. The last year has been very difficult for Valentina, since after facing a traumatic situation she has not been the same, she has stopped doing several things that she used to do normally, affecting her routine and her already established habits.
Taking advantage of her desire to manipulate different artistic materials such as pencils, markers, temperas, colored paper and recycled material (bottles, cardboard, sticks, ribbons and others), we began to work with Valentina through art to reincorporate her routines, those that he had lost and others that are necessary for his age. In addition, music, singing and dancing were incorporated into their routines, which help stimulate their language, improve their oral expression, express their emotions, enhance their imagination and manual skills, as well as increase their capacity for concentration and memory.
These artistic resources from the beginning of her sessions were accepted by Camila easily and without the need to force or pressure her and have generated small positive changes in her that will be seen in the long term, it is also important to point out that at the same time as being useful to her, they make her feel happy, which is reflected in his face and movements from the time he enters his session until he leaves it.
