Dear Supporters,
During October and November GVI has successfully managed to build a second classroom, office and start building the playground at Magapane day care centre. The building was done by a local builder with GVI volunteers as assistants. The funds for the building materials came from you, our donors!
The main objective was to provide a safe learning environment for teaching and learning at Magapane Day Care Centre.
Community upliftment trips are one of the most loved activities by our interns and volunteers. The building project had the volunteers working long hours in the community and gave them a greater insight into the local way of life. It involves a lot of hard work but is rewarding and enjoyable. The building not only provides a safe environment for the children but also created a short-term employment for the local builder which helps strengthen the local economy as well as the relationship between GVI and the local communities.
We divided the project into two phases as we waited for funds to become available. Phase one was the construction of the first classroom and an office, which is complete. We have started phase 2, the second classroom and a playground now and it is due to be completed by the end of 2016!
Here at GVI Karongwe we believe an extremely important part of conservation is the education and involvement of the local community, especially the children. As it is these people who will one day be responsible for the preservation of South Africa’s flora and fauna. We will continue working with this school and community in the coming years to teach them about conservation and environmental issues that affect their community.
Thank you for your donations which have made this entire project possible!
With Gratitude,
GVI South Africa
