Life begins at 70

By Chia-Yi Chou | Project Leader

"Life begins at 70" is no longer a slogan in an aging society. Grandma Chen, who is over 70 years old, always has a cheerful smile like a flower on her face.
Grandma Chen has been encountered in four car accidents. Because of the operation, Grandma Chen's wrist cannot move well. A chance encounter with her old friend on the train platform took her to a good place for the elders - the Mustard Seed Mission Elderly Daycare Station which opened the next wonderful life experience for her.
Grandma Chen, who has a cheerful and strong personality, not only can she take many courses and make new friends when she comes to the base, but she is also willing to volunteer to clean the base environment. Through the interactions with people in the base and volunteering in cleaning, her wrists were able to move day by day. She often said happily: I would like to keep the environment clean, it makes me feel good.
Usually, Grandma Chen will make her own instant coffee for a pleasant afternoon. Once, a coffee course was offered at the base, and a Barista was invited to demonstrate how to brew a cup of coffee and let the elderly try to make it themselves. "It turns out that coffee has such a different taste!" Grandma Chen shared that she would like to bring friends to her home to show off the new skill she has learned.
Grandma Chen lives alone. However, in the base, she has classmates, a nice place to stay and learn new things in the daytime, and a social worker who cares about her, which makes her feel full of energy in her life.
In order to implement the long-term care policies of "community aging" and "local aging", the Mustard Seed Mission invites local people to provide local services, establish a community model, set up a long-term care station to provide multiple services such as health promotion, caring visits, catering services, phone call caring, etc. to establish a sustainable care system and provide community-based preventive care for the elderly.
