The Emergency Food Distribution team has been hard at work, using information from the completed Rounds in the South(I and II) and North(I, II, and III), to develop plans for the next ones to help families like Tsitfanty’s. The mother of 3 was involved in the last round and asked “that SEED continue this Project that it has started and done to help malnourished children [because] it really helps a lot to families who are in need like [hers].” Her family, whose main occupation is farming, could not harvest enough to provide for her family and some days her children only ate once a day. Due to the positive community response and continued environmental shocks, Round IV in the North has been underway and Round III in the South officially began September 1st to help families like Tsitfanty’s.
In the North, Round IV has already helped 452 children and their families work toward better health. The first food distribution of the round was last month and included 12,600 RUTF packets to children as well as 7,050 kg of rice, 760 litres of oil, and 4,530 cups of beans to their families! Plus, a 5 day training reached 90 health workers to spread awareness about family planning, maternal, and child health. In the South, the team is currently implementing the health worker trainings and screening the children in the community in order to have the official number of children receiving treatment for Round III. Rounds III and IV in the South are expected to treat 1,200 children!
The distributions are going according to plan and I look forward to providing the results in the next report. Thank you for being a part of the continuation of the Emergency Food Distributions and helping families like Tsitfanty’s!
