I'm writing this update in Budapest. Since our team came to Hungary, we have visited the Hungarian-Ukraine borders and support organizations in Budapest, met people in different situations, and faced diverse needs. We are very grateful for the warm support we have received from all of you.
This war is really affecting a lot of people. We are conducting needs assessments and providing assistance focusing on those who have been left behind.
The other day, as we were doing our usual survey at border towns, we came across one piece of information. It was the information that a priest in a small church was taking care of a Romani family (two mothers and nine children) who had nowhere else to go.
After receiving the information, we visited the church. The church was in a small village called Tuzér. The people in this village never seemed to be economically well off, and the priest's family itself and church also were very modest.
There are Romani children anxiously huddled together in the small church. The priest told us that he found a family lost at the Zahorny station on the Ukrainian-Hungarian border and invited them into his church, where he provided them with shelter and food. However, they were about to run out of gas and it was financially difficult to provide food for more than 10 people every day.
After assessing the situation, immediately we went to buy food, daily necessities, and gas cylinders and delivered them. Relief supplies include: Bread, vegetables, cocoa, pasta, juice, soap, toilet paper, sanitary products, children's toothbrushes, toothpaste, gas cylinders, etc.
In villages near the border, people who cannot afford to go to Budapest or a third country live in the homes of well-meaning people. Although it is a patient activity, we would like to be able to provide the necessary support to those who are difficult to reach.
There are people still affected by conflicts in many countries, such as Ukraine and the Democratic Republic of Congo, who are ordinary citizens just like us. We will continue to support these people. Your donation will be carefully used to fund our activities.
With deep gratitude,
Mai Yoshida, Terra Renaissance
