Hi!. Thank you for reading our reports. Your warm support encourages us to continue our activities in the field.
Hungary, where we work, has five border points with Ukraine. People from Ukraine enter Hungary through these border points and register as refugees at help centers located near each border.
Currently in Ukraine, men between the ages of 18 and 60 are prohibited from leaving the country due to military service. As a result, more than 90% of the refugees consist of women, children, the elderly, and people with disabilities. Currently, more than 520,000 people have entered Hungary, including those who have traveled through third countries such as Romania. 90% of these people are heading further to Western Europe, making Hungary a transit country for refugees.
On the other hand, many people have been internally displaced in the Transcarpathian region, from eastern central Ukraine to western Ukraine, and the number is estimated to be at least 200,000. The influx of refugees into the Transcarpathian region, which is originally one of the poorest regions in Ukraine, has placed a heavy burden on those receiving internally displaced persons, such as rising prices. Therefore, support for sending supplies to these areas has begun in Hungary.
The day after delivering relief supplies to Roma's family, we were informed by the Barabash Help Center that we were delivering supplies to western Ukraine, but there were not enough supplies. Therefore, we interviewed the person in charge of the help center, asked them to write a list of necessary supplies, procured them as relief supplies for the western part of Ukraine, and delivered supplies centered on food.
Relief supplies include:
Food (pasta, rice, soup base, sweets, cooking oil, flour, sugar, etc.)
Daily necessities (sanitary goods, tissues, toilet paper, etc.)
Currently, the number of refugees displaced from Ukraine to Hungary is declining. On the contrary, the number of internally displaced persons in Ukraine continues to increase, and the burden on the host community is also increasing.
In addition, there are waves in the influx of refugees, which are affected by the war situation in Ukraine. The number of refugees is expected to increase again in the coming weeks. It remains unpredictable.
We will continue to monitor the situation carefully and will continue to provide necessary support in cooperation with other organizations. Thank you for your continued support and assistance.
With deep gratitude,
Mai Yoshida, Terra Renaissance
